Now’s the time to make the most of life. u3a gives you the chance to develop your interests, make new friends and enjoy yourself.
There are three u3a groups in Eastbourne. Each u3a is home to a number of special interest groups, such as history, music, languages, pub games, walking, dining, Tai chi, bowling, art and many, many more.
There are also regular talks from professional speakers on a wide range of subjects.
Cost of membership is very affordable from only £12 a year.
What is u3a?
u3a stands for the University of the Third Age, but don’t let the name fool you—it’s not a university in the traditional sense. It’s a vibrant, UK-wide movement that brings together people who are no longer in full-time work to learn, share, and connect through a wide range of interest groups.

What It’s All About
Learning for pleasure: No exams, no homework—just curiosity-driven exploration.
Peer-led groups: Members teach and learn from each other, drawing on life experience and personal interests.
Wide variety of topics: From languages and history to photography, gardening, and even bridge or walking groups.
Who Can Join?
The Third-Age Principle - u3a is open to all in their third age, which is defined not by a particular age but by a period in life in which full-time employment has ceased.
Anyone in their “third age”—typically retired or semi-retired.
There’s no minimum age, just a shared desire to keep learning and stay socially active.
