What does u3a Eastbourne offer?
u3a Eastbourne offers a vibrant mix of intellectual, creative, and social activities—perfect for someone who enjoys structured engagement with a dash of fun.
Between them, the three Eastbourne groups offer nearly a hundred special interest groups and four professional speakers a month.
Each branch has its own flavour, but all share a commitment to lifelong learning and community.
Which u3a group should I join?
Although each u3a group covers a nominally designated area, members do not need to live in the area to join a particular group. Members from all over Eastbourne can join any of the three groups. Many are members of two or three groups. For example, you don't have to live in Meads to join u3a Eastbourne (Meads). For instance, the current Chairman of the Meads group lives at the other end of Eastbourne, near Sovereign Harbour.
To choose the group most appropriate for you, you need to consider several things:
Location and times of meetings and talks: Each group has a social meeting every month (Eastbourne Central has two) where members are kept up to date on news or new interest groups, a professional speaker gives a talk on any of a variety of subjects, and there is a chance to meet and socialise with their fellow members after the meeting. You don't have to attend all, or any, of the meetings if you don't wish to, but they are a good way to get to know your fellow members.
Special interest groups: Each u3a group has a range of special interest groups covering a wide range of subjects. Check the lists of interest groups for each u3a group to see which appeals to you. You don't have to join any interest groups if you'd rather not.
If you can't find a special interest group that takes your fancy, you can start one yourself based on your own passion.
Why join just one?
If you want to take advantage of all u3a Eastbourne has to offer, you can join more than one u3a group. The annual fee for associate membership - joining a second (or third) group - is discounted.
